Episode Transcript

Good day, I’m Dr. Teri Fisher, bringing you your daily dose of Aesthetic Medicine Minute for March 19th. Today, we’re discussing a pertinent topic in our field: a surprising treatment of eyelid ptosis following a Botox injection.

In a recent publication within the Cureus Journal of Medical Science, a case report titled “Treatment of Full Eyelid Ptosis Following Botox Injection: A Case Report” sheds light on this rare, yet concerning complication. The authors describe a patient who experienced full ptosis post-treatment, which understandably provoked significant distress.

The really interesting thing about this case is that, in addition to treating the ptosis with brimonidine drops, it was also treated with another dose of botulinum toxin. The patient started to notice a gradual improvement in her eyelid five days after the injection, so by 2 weeks, her eyelid was very closely back to normal opening.

This case illustrated a surprisingly and successfully reversed ptosis by a second dose of botulinum toxin. This suggests that this management may successfully treat such cases and can deliver a beneficial reversal option for practitioners and their patients.
