Episode Transcript
Today, October 29, 2024, we’re diving into the world of aesthetic dentistry with a study that offers new insights into treating gummy smiles, a common concern for many. The study, published in the Romanian Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, compares two innovative therapies: Botox injections and laser treatment.
Led by Dr. Rezk Gavrilă Taalat Gabriel from “Titu Maiorescu” University in Bucharest and Efface Aesthetic Clinic in the UK, alongside Anamaria Bechir from the same university, the research evaluated 30 female patients. These patients, aged between 31 and 45, were treated either with Botox, by Allergan, or laser therapy utilizing the Fotona LightWalker Laser.
Findings reveal that while both treatments significantly enhanced patients’ aesthetic and psychological well-being, Botox stood out in terms of patient satisfaction—consistently rated highest across all monitoring sessions. Despite the laser therapy group experiencing more pain immediately post-treatment, both therapies overall improved life quality for the patients.
This study sheds light on effective methods to address excessive gingival display, helping individuals regain confidence in their smiles with reduced psychological impact.
