Episode Transcript
Today’s date is January 11, 2025, and fascinating insights have emerged regarding Botox use in breastfeeding mothers. With cosmetic Botox becoming increasingly popular among women, even during the post-pregnancy period, questions about safety abound. Recent studies have delved into how indeed Botox might affect breastmilk.
Five women, aged 28 to 45, participated in a study where breastmilk samples were analyzed for the presence of Botox. Tests involved Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), micro-Raman Spectroscopy, and Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Notably, the highest concentration of Botox in breastmilk was recorded four days after injection, peaking at 167 pg/mL, and maintaining elevated levels through the first week and around two months post-injection.
Interestingly, no Botox presence was detected using Mass Spectrometry and other methods, raising questions about the effectiveness of different detection techniques. This study highlights the need for further research to truly understand the implications for breastfeeding infants. Keep these findings in mind when considering post-pregnancy beauty treatments.
