Welcome to the Aesthetic Medicine Minute. Today, April 22nd, we’re discussing an article published in the April 2024 issue of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology that explores a new hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, Restylane Shaype. The study, led by Dr. Andreas Nikolis and a team of respected clinicians, reports on a filler designed to improve the non-surgical approach to chin augmentation.
The product, known as Shaype, was evaluated for its effectiveness and safety in correcting chin retrusion—a condition where the chin projects less than desired. This hyaluronic acid boasts high G prime, indicating strength and firmness, making it suitable for placement on the bone to mimic the chin’s natural contour.
The study randomly assigned participants to either Shaype injections or no treatment, and measured outcomes through the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale and the Galderma Chin Retrusion Scale, alongside patient satisfaction surveys.
Results revealed an 83.3% improvement in patients receiving Shaype, and high satisfaction rates persisted throughout the 12-month follow-up period. Additionally, reported adverse events were mostly mild and transient, with no serious issues.
This evidence suggests that Restylane Shaype, employing NASHA-HD technology, is a safe and effective non-surgical alternative for enhancing chin profile and overall facial aesthetics. For practitioners and patients alike, it seems we have another promising tool to sculpt confidence while minimizing risks. Stay tuned as we continue to follow advancements in aesthetic medicine that blend cutting-edge science with patient care.
